Fascinating -- Tommy Shaw did a bit of two-hand tapping here, in 1978, the same year Van Halen's first record came out. Eddie certainly turned the technique into his centerpiece, but he didn't invent it. There are videos of an Italian guitarist doing it on an acoustic in the late 1950s.
